As many of you know Brett Favre returned to play for the Minnesota Vikings this year. He led the Vikings to a twelve and four overall record. This record gave the Vikings a first round bye in the playoffs. The Vikings won their first game in the playoffs to the Dallas Cowboys. In my very first blog I am going to be writing about how much the local and national media has benefited from the return of Brett Favre to the Minnesota Vikings.
The national news has been crazy this year with Brett Favre news. It all began by the reports of rumors that Brett Favre was going to return to football to play for the Vikings. As the season started, the media had many questions in the air. Would Brett’s surgically repaired right arm be ready for the workload? Would he be able to win over the hearts of his former team’s rival? Would Brett be able to handle the fast paced play of today’s top athletes? Would he be able to face the pressures of facing his old team (Green Bay Packers)? Would his arm be able to throw lasers at the end of the season? All of these questions were stories that the media created to gain publicity. Brett Favre did not let them down. As the season got underway he started answering these questions with flying colors. Brett started the season by leading the Minnesota Vikings to six straight victories on his repaired bicep. One of these wins included a last second touchdown pass to Greg Lewis in the back of the end zone, to defeat the San Francisco 49ers in week three. At this point Brett started creating the stories for the media to report on; they no longer had to create questions to make up stories that really were not there. He was a great story in the making. The next story the media frenzied off of was the return of Brett Favre to the hostile environment of Lambeau Field. In week eight Brett Favre would face his toughest challenge yet, as he would have to face his former team the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau field. Once again he passed this test in flying colors. Despite the unbelievable pressure, Brett led the Vikings to a 38 to 26 pounding of his new rival. In that game he threw for an astounding four touchdown passes. What a great story for the national media! Brett Favre returned to Lambeau to get his revenge (or whatever you want to call it) on his former team!
The local media has also benefited a great deal from the presence of Brett Favre. The media in Minneapolis is hyped over this upcoming NFC championship game. The Minneapolis Star Tribune Has a direct link called “Access Vikings” on their homepage that brings you directly to information on the upcoming game. The home website is flooded with purple merchandise for the game. The local sports radio station KFAN- AM 1130 is also going purple. Their home page changed their entire background to Vikings logos. They are also featuring a countdown clock to this Sundays NFC championship game. Brett Favre has not only won the hearts of the fans, but also the hearts media. Brett Favre has created so many good stories for the local and national media that I think it is time that they thank him for playing the game that he loves. GO VIKINGS!

Although Brett Favre and his Vikings couldn't pull off what would have been an amazing win tonight against the NO Saints in the NFC Championship, it is pretty easy to say that Favre did the job that he was hired to do.
ReplyDeleteAnd you can be sure that although his season is over, the media will still have love for him. Number one being if he will be returning next year or if it's really time to retire. For real this time. The media was already hyping tonight about how all of his teammates were "pretty sure he wasn't going to be back."
I just saw an ad tonight after the game about something having to do with TV's. Brett Favre was standing having a conversation with a sale's person. The sale's person says "I was gonna retire today, but then I was like 'Nope, gonna go back to work." Favre responds with "Good choice." Thought it was comical.
You can be sure that we'll be hearing a lot about #4 for quite some time still.
I have been a Vikings fan my whole life, therefore I have alwayse absolutely hated, HATED WITH A PASSION, Brett Farve. There is no way anyone could have predicted that he would someday play for the Vikings, and if they did, I am sure everyone around them would have laughed. When I heard this year that the Vikings got Brett Farve to sign with them, I honestly didn't know what to think. I partly felt betrayed. I eventually got over it though, and I am very glad with the final decision of letting him join our team.
ReplyDeleteI think brett did better then even he thought he could at his age. So as a vikings fan I am glade the vikings spent the money to get favre.
ReplyDeleteA few things come to mind about Brett that I dont think the media, Brett himself, or anyone for that matter could've predicted even just a few years ago. Farve becoming a Viking, him having the best season of his career at age 40, and most of his former Packer fans now hating him. There are other things but I think that these are just a few that the fact of them being so unpredictable made them such huge stories in the day to day news. So I would love for Brett to come back next season and gives us more to talk about but either way it was a very eventful and exciting season and I for one will not forget it.
